Mastering User Roles & Permissions in Your Bubble App
Considering a SaaS venture on Bubble? Chances are, you're diving into the world of juggling multiple user types and perhaps toying with the idea of multi-tenancy - a shared workspace for your users coming from the same company.
Guess what? Building with Bubble just dropped an invaluable video tutorial, guiding you through the ropes of setting up these features. In a nutshell, Lachlan spills the beans on:
Database Design: Crafting a solid plan and structure for your database.
Role-Specific Features: Navigating the art of restricting features to specific user roles.
Admin Empowerment: Building admin functionality to seamlessly update user roles.
Even if you're a seasoned pro, this tutorial is a goldmine for a quick refresher on top-notch database design practices.
Build Tip: Elevate Your Design with Masonry Grids
This week's build tip is all about spicing up your web design with masonry grids - a trend that Pinterest set rolling years ago and is now a staple across the web. Why? Because these layouts effortlessly showcase content like photos without the need for making them uniform in size. And they will add that touch of modern charm to your websites.
Sure, there are loads of free and paid plugins out there to achieve this magic, but here's the kicker - few know you can actually achieve the same effect using the native Repeating Groups

Navigating Bubble's Workload Metric
Back in April 2023, Bubble shook things up with introducing new usage-based pricing model, shining the spotlight on the Workload metric - a gauge of the work happening behind the scenes.
For those with straightforward apps and modest user counts, this might seem like a non-issue. All subscription plans pack more than enough workload units to fuel your initial creative spark.
However, as your app evolves with intricate features and growing user numbers, optimizing for workload becomes the name of the game to avoid hefty surprises on your bills.
Up until recently, resources on this topic were scarce. But guess what? A fresh chapter just landed in the official Bubble Manual, laying out strategies to tune your app for optimal workload consumption.
Here's a brief overview for the ones that don’t have time to read it in its full extent:
Workload is a Resource, Not your Enemy: Strike the right balance between enhancing user experience (even if it nudges up the workload) and keeping costs in check.
Dashboard Deep Dive: Regularly check your workload usage dashboard. Dive into how your app is performing, pinpoint operations causing the most usage, and identify areas begging for improvement.
Client-Side Savvy: Workload is only relevant for server-side actions (think workflows). Anything happening on the client-side (like setting custom states) won't cost you a workload penny.
Top Culprits: High workload often stems from data searches, page loading, API requests, and bulk operations. When analysing your app's performance, shine the spotlight on these areas first.
This is just the tip of the iceberg - dive into the documentation for a treasure trove of optimization tips. Trust me; there are too many gems to squeeze into this email!
Profitable AI Businesses for Sale on Microns
This week brings a fantastic chance your way - two thriving SaaS tools, entirely built on Bubble, are up for grabs on the Microns Marketplace.
AI Meme Generator: A Micro-SaaS using the OpenAI API to transform any image into a hilarious meme. With a total of 2k signups, it's generating $100 in ARR and seeking new ownership at $2.5k.
AI Headlines Copywriter:
This SaaS tool, launched in March 2023, taps into OpenAI to generate catchy headlines for blog posts, YouTube videos, and more. Despite zero marketing efforts, it boasts a staggering 180k signups. With 60 paying users raking in $2k in ARR, it's a steal at an asking price of $12k!
Bubble is clearly emerging as the go-to stack for crafting all kinds of AI wrappers. If you've got some capital and the itch to dive into a profitable Bubble SaaS venture, these opportunities might be your chance.
Before wishing you a joyful holiday season, I stumbled upon this captivating infographic on X that I couldn't wait to share with you. It perfectly echoes my thoughts on the difference in required skills between coders and no-coders and how they can unlock exciting new career avenues.
This strongly resonates with my commitment to the no-code movement, particularly with Bubble. I'm convinced that 2024 is poised to be an epic year for our community, brimming with new possibilities and growth.
